The Paper Crowns

Asheville-based husband-and-wife duo Spiro and Nicole Nicolopoulos bring a soulful, genre-bending sound to the stage as The Paper Crowns. Blending Appalachian folk, bluegrass, blues, Southern rock, and psychedelic jams, the pair delivers rich harmonies, impressive musicianship, and an infectious live energy. Known for their creative improvisation and original songwriting, The Paper Crowns have performed at LEAF Festival, Warren Haynes Christmas Jam by Day, and numerous venues and festivals across the country. Expect an eclectic mix of American roots music with plenty of soul and a few surprises along the way.

Asheville mainstay Spiro Nicolopoulos brings the Blues Apocalypse! to Barley’s for a night of soulful grooves, blues, funk and freewheeling jams. A guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and longtime fixture of the Asheville music scene, Spiro is known for stretching roots music into new territory with plenty of improvisation and serious musicianship. Friday night’s trio will also include the famous Jeff Ruby on bass and the incredible JC ears on drums.

Abe Reid & The SpikeDrivers hit the stage at 8:30PM, bringing a raw mix of Piedmont blues, roots music and rock ’n’ roll to Downtown Asheville.

A North Carolina native, Abe learned the tradition firsthand from legendary Carolina musicians Guitar Gabriel and Cootie Stark, spent time busking the streets of New Orleans, and helped form The Blue Rags before going on to win the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 1998. He’s spent decades keeping that old-school Carolina sound alive while putting plenty of grit and electricity into it. Explore Asheville
